To offer a variety of specialized degree options, the Plaster School of Business maintains 8 distinct emphases within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program and several undergraduate minors and certificates.
Accounting
The BSBA in Accounting prepares students for careers in business, government, and public accounting. Our program offers coursework in corporate and cost accounting, information systems, data analysis, tax issues, and auditing to provide students with a solid foundation of accounting skills.
150-Hour Recommendations
Students seeking the BSBA with an emphasis in accounting should take note of the requirements for entry into the profession. The State of Missouri requires 150 hours of college credit, including an undergraduate degree, before a candidate may sit for the Certified Public Accountant examination. Most other states have similar requirements. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants requires new members to have 150 semester hours of college credit in order to join. Students seeking the BSBA with an emphasis in accounting desiring to meet this requirement should note the “150-hour” recommendations at the end of the BSBA suggested order of study. Students may find it helpful to concentrate any remaining hours in a single area such as finance, computer science, communications, a foreign language, or similar pursuits. Students may wish to consider a double-major in Accounting and CIS.
Finance
The BSBA in Finance introduces students to the theories, concepts, practices, and advances in financial analysis and financial management. Our program provides knowledge in asset management, commercial banking, corporate finance, financial planning, investments, insurance, or risk management.
Entrepreneurship
The BSBA in Entrepreneurship provides students with the entrepreneurial spirit a platform to develop skills related to marketing, finance, product development, innovation, and finance within an entrepreneurial context. Upon the successful completion of this major, students will be exceptionally prepared to apply their knowledge in managerial roles within rapidly growing, innovative firms, or to bring their unique concepts to market by launching new ventures.
General Business
The BSBA General Business emphasis course of study is intended to give the broadest possible background to the graduate and to prepare the graduate for managerial positions in the public and private sectors.
Human Resource Management
The BSBA in Human Resource Management prepares graduates to serve as the link between management and employees in creating a productive environment. Our program provides the knowledge and skills needed to organize and coordinate these vital assets. The Human Resource Management programs at the Plaster School of Business have been recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and coordinates with professional certification requirements.
Management
The BSBA in Management is a diverse program as managing today requires a diverse set of knowledge and skills in entrepreneurial strategy, human resource management, human behavior in organizations, information systems, operations management, business law and ethics. As the study of management is related to the behavioral aspects of people interacting in the workplace our program provides students with an understanding of how to guide people to success. In addition, students learn how to ensure effective operations through skills in critical thinking, collaboration, communication, problem-solving and more.
Marketing
The BSBA Marketing emphasis course of study is intended to prepare graduates for positions in personal selling, product and services marketing, promotions, consumer behavior, marketing and sales analysis, retailing and supply chain logistics.
Supply Chain Management
The BSBA in Supply Chain Management program provides students with analytical knowledge and tools to design business processes involving various functional departments.
