AGBS 0400 - Agricultural Commodity Marketing

This curriculum explores agricultural commodity markets, including futures and options trading. The focus is on commercial field crops and livestock in agriculture. Students will examine futures markets’ function in a market-based economy and learn how futures and their options are used in corporate asset and risk management. Key topics include trading mechanics for futures and options, development of hedging strategies, cash-futures market basis relationships, fundamental and technical analysis of commodity futures prices, market analysis techniques, regulatory frameworks in commodity markets, and evaluation of commodity market performance. The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of these markets’ operations and their significance in the agricultural sector. Prerequisite AGBS 300.
