CIS 0390 - Introduction to Big Data Analysis


Fall 3 Credit Hours
A survey of the field of data science, including vocabulary, methodologies, algorithms, and best practices with respect to using large datasets. Students will develop questions, organize and format data, and create visualizations in hands-on activities using Python and Excel, plus other tools currently used by data scientists, such as Apache Spark and Cassandra. Students will also learn about the legal, ethical, and privacy ramifications of big data gathering and dissemination. Three hours lectures per week. Prerequisites: CIS 240 with a grade of C or above and MATH 310 or GB 321.
