An analysis of the meaning and importance of religion as a major social institution. Considerable attention is given to religious organizations and the role of religion in the United States, including religious affiliation, religiosity and religious diversity. Some discussion of the major world religions and the role of religion in social change. Prerequisite: SOC 0110.
