SOC 0210 - Social Problems


Fall 3 Credit Hours
A survey of contemporary social problems, such as racism, sexism and poverty. Includes a focus on institutional problems in the family, at work, in educational settings or health care systems. The course encourages a critical examination of society and concentrates on the structural sources of social problems, including the economy and politics, as well as the centrality of social class, race and ethnicity, gender and age as sources of division, inequality and injustice. Further, the role of the U.S. in global social problems, such as resource depletion and pollution, overpopulation and global inequality, is also explored. MOTR# SOCI 201. Prerequisite: SOC 0110 .
