HIST 0160 - History of Latin America Spring 3 Credit Hours Historical overview of Latin America, from the Spanish and Portuguese to the present day, by examining the major themes and events in the region. Particular emphasis will be placed on the Indian and African background of Latin American history and the ways in which these groups helped shape Latin American society. Topics covered will include the conquest of Latin America, Spanish administration, the independence movements of the nineteenth century, nation building, and revolutionary movements of the twentieth century.
