TH 0314 - Latinx Theatre, Dance, Music, and Performance

Explores movements in theater, dance, music, and the performances of the Latinx community, examining historical movements within specific social, political, and cultural contexts. The course will explore the significance of theatre, dance, music, and performance as part of a movement, how “community” is defined and created, and the role of race in American or global history. Explores the range and genealogy of Latinx theatre and performance from its origins in the last fifty years to the present. An inquiry into the innovations, traditions, and conventions made by Latinx artists. Time period ranging from the 20th Century to contemporary theatre, this course will look at artists and productions created by Latinx artists and how they have influenced culture. The course will also examine theories and histories arising from the formation of multicultural (Latinx, Chicano, Puerto Rican, Nuyrican, Caribbean, Afro‐Latinx, Etc, Etc) identities in the Americas. Prerequisite: none.
