INTS 0310 - Food, Culture, and Society Spring 3 Credit Hours Explores the ways in which food serves as a cultural expression of beliefs and values, shapes the identity of people groups around the globe, and connects diverse societies. Students will study and experience the major cuisines of the world through class lectures, by hearing from guest speakers, and by participating in the annual World Music & Cuisine Festival at MSSU. Students will also engage in readings and discussions on important food-related topics such as GMO foods, religion-based diet restrictions, the ethics of eating meat, food insecurity, and the ways in which our food system shapes and reflects societal inequality. Prerequisites: ENG 0101 and ENG 102, or ENG 111, and COMM 100.
