NEW TERMS: Spring-Odd 3 Credit Hours
NEW COURSE DESCRIPTION: Designed to formulate principles for directing middle school and secondary choral ensembles. Topics include the history/philosophy of choral singing in America; vocal technique within the choral rehearsal; choral decorum regarding tone, diction, intonation, balance, blend, musicality, and stage deportment; principles of IPA; the changing voice; the development and evaluation of a choral rogram; concert programming; choral score study; and rehearsal techniques. Podium time for ensemble vocalization and rehearsal, along with 5 hours of onsite observation, will provide the aspiring choral conductor the opportunity for guided experience, and see its practicality firsthand, when conducting middle school and secondary choral ensembles. Prerequisite: MUS 182.
